One of our fans on Facebook, Kenny Tolley, recently submitted a newspaper article that spoke of a renewed push in SC by State senator Marlon Kimson to enforce and tighten gun control. Below is an exert from the Upstate:

State Sen. Marlon Kimpson’s plan to introduce legislation designed to strengthen state gun laws received mixed reaction from Spartanburg County lawmakers last week.

His bills are aimed at reducing the number of illegal guns, ban assault weapons and strengthen background checks. Another one of his proposals will implement a gun registration system so tracking can be made easier in South Carolina.

Kimpson, D-Charleston, said he plans to pre-file five bills in December in the General Assembly. Kimpson has written Senate Judiciary Chairman Larry Martin requesting that a sub-committee be appointed so that the bills can be addressed as soon as the session begins.

He said he believed gun violence across South Carolina is a problem, and it was time for state lawmakers to seriously determine how best to curb gun violence in the state. For the next several months, Kimpson said he plans to meet with groups on both sides of the gun control debate to discuss his proposed legislation.
