MSNewsNow.com – Jackson, MSAn armed security officer at the Freelon’s Club in Jackson, Mississippi shot and killed a man who police say had returned to the club with a gun after he was involved in an altercation earlier inside the club.

Around 3:04 AM on Saturday morning, officers responded to Freelon’s Club at 440 North Mill Street, Commander Tyree Jones said in a news release.

Jessie James Newson, 27, had been shot near the main entrance of the nightclub. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Newson had been in an altercation inside the club prior to the shooting. The victim drove a dark colored Audi toward the front entrance and exited the vehicle armed with a handgun. A security officer employed by Freelon’s discharged his weapon several times striking Newson.

The security guard was detained for questioning but no charges will be filed at this time.

Unfortunately, the Freelon’s Club is no stranger to such incidents. Another man was shot by a security officer outside the club in 2014, and he came forward to tell his story after hearing about this most recent shooting.
