Ruger issues recall on Mark IV pistols over unsafe condition (VIDEO)

Ruger has found that all Mark IV pistols — including 22/45 models — made before June 1 could fire unintentionally if the safety is not used correctly and the company is conducting a recall.
Mark Gurney, director of product management for Ruger, explains in the above video the guns can fire in certain circumstances depending on how the safety is manipulated.
“In particular, if the trigger is pulled while the safety levers are in an interim position partway between the ‘safe’ and ‘fire’ positions — neither fully engaged nor fully disengaged, and the trigger is pulled, the gun may not fire. It will sound like a misfire,” says Gurney. “However, if the trigger is released and the safety is rotated to the full ‘fire’ position, then the gun may discharge.”
While no injuries have been reported, Ruger is advising users or owners of Mark IV Target, Hunter, Competition, 22/45, 22/45 Lite and 22/45 Tactical models to cease using those pistols and refer to the dedicated website for the recall.
Those with guns falling into the identified serial number range will be retrofitted with an updated safety mechanism.
