Yesterday, Rick Ector was present at the annual Second Amendment March in Lansing at the Capitol Building. Ector spoke during the rally and panned Red Flag laws as an attack on the due process rights of gun owners. Under the proposed legislation, the government with a court order can raid a person’s home and take any guns found for a year. Many gun owners are crying foul because they were not afforded a right to face their accusers before being punished.

Ector believes that a person should not be punished without facing his accusers in court. This proposed legislation could be abused and lead to many gun owners being unjustifiable being disarmed. Further, Ector believes that if a person is truly a threat to the community, he should be given treatment and afforded a chance to get better. Merely taking someone’s guns is not a guarantee that anybody will get better or made safer.
