REPORT: French National Police, Gendarmerie Select the HK UMP

Last summer, France’s two national law enforcement agencies, the National Police and National Gendarmerie, issued a solicitation for a 9x19mm submachine gun. Now the HK UMP has reportedly been selected to fulfill that need.

HK’s French subsidiary, Heckler and Koch France SAS, will handle the procurement. The UMP isn’t specifically mentioned, but as The Firearm Blog notes, the gun meets the desired specs. In addition, the French police have demonstrated an interest in the gun; it’s been issued to select units for a decade now.
