It’s been seven months since House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was shot in the hip when a gunman opened fire on the GOP team’s practice for the Congressional Baseball game; seven months since he was wheeled into MedStar Washington Medical Center in “critical condition, with an imminent risk of death.” And while in those seven months Scalise has come rather far, his recovery is not yet over.

On Tuesday, the House Majority Whip released the following announcement that he will undergo a planned surgery on Wednesday, January 10th as a part of his recovery process (emphasis mine).

I have been fortunate to make tremendous progress in my healing from last June’s shooting, and tomorrow I will undergo a planned surgery as part of my ongoing recovery process. I am incredibly humbled by the outpouring of support and prayers I have received from friends and neighbors in southeast Louisiana, my colleagues in Congress, and wonderful people from all across the country. I appreciate all of the continued prayers as I move forward with my recovery, and I continue to be thankful for the dedicated care I am receiving from my medical team.
