A recent attempt to purchase a handgun holster led authorities to a convicted felon in possession of a gun, but authorities got an even greater shock when they found out the felon – a convicted rapist – was working as a security guard at a Fresno rape crisis center.
Damon Rodgers, who was found with a firearm and two switchblades, served 13 years in prison for two rapes and one attempted rape in Madera County in 1997.
Sgt. Israel Reyes with the Fresno Police Department said the rape crisis center was unaware of Rodgers’ criminal history and “very shocked” to learn about it. The center immediately went to the security company who hired Rodgers, Stone Protection Services, but they apparently were also unaware of Rodgers’ history.
A fellow security guard, who apparently knew Rodgers’ criminal history – or at least that he was a convicted felon – tipped off authorities when Rodgers wrote a Facebook post saying he was searching for a holster for a .45.
Rodgers’ still holds a valid guard card from the state of California, although the paperwork has been filed to have it revoked.
Meanwhile, Rodgers remains in jail on the felony gun charge.
