TAMPA, FL — A fan at a recent Tampa Bay Lightning game was arrested for bringing a gun into the “gun-free” arena.

Lucas Cassidy, a concealed weapons permit holder, was going through security when his firearm set off the metal detector. Taking advantage of the crazy crowds being handled by the security guards, Cassidy simply showed the guards the keys in his pocket. The guards let him continue into the arena, unaware of his gun in his other pocket.

A man saw Cassidy drop the gun in the restroom and alerted authorities. Cassidy was followed and arrested from his seat.

Another lightning fan, Casey Parris, says that this situation is more common than people think. Parris said that he forgot to leave his gun in his car during a game last season, breezing through security, unaware until the end of the game that he had his gun on his person.

“Obviously if the gates aren’t very busy we have the ability to slow things down, but I can assure you, tonight we will be slow and methodical and very diligent,” said Arena Vice President Mary Milne.
