NWTF Reminds Vermont Hunters of Upcoming Youth Turkey-Hunting Weekend
Edgefield, SC -(AmmoLand.com)- The National Wild Turkey Federation is encouraging youth under the age of 15 to participate in Vermont’s youth turkey hunt weekend,April 23-24.
“This is a great opportunity for kids to get out in the woods ahead of the regular hunting season and learn how to successfully and safely hunt turkeys,” said Brett Ladeau, state chapter president for NWTF Vermont. “It also is an important time for family and friends to pass along the hunting traditions they cherish to ensure our hunting heritage carries on with the next generation.”
Last year, youth hunters harvested 510 bearded turkeys during the youth hunt weekend. The youth-only hunt typically occurs the weekend before the opening of spring turkey hunting season.
“About one out of every four youth hunters harvests a bird on this special weekend just for them, and I expect this year will be no different,” said Amy Alfieri, Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department’s Turkey Project Leader.
