For junior guard Matt Farrell, Notre Dame’s 77-62 victory over Colgate Monday night was special enough. Then his brother Bo, a first lieutenant with the U.S. Army, surprised Matt and the rest of his family after the game. Needless to say, the surprise made the night memorable for everyone.

Bo, who had been deployed in Afghanistan for seven months, wasn’t due to be home until February, but managed to surprise his family for the holidays.

The surprise began with a fake tribute video that played Notre Dame’s arena’s big screen. The video showed Bo in front of an American flag wishing the team and his family a Merry Christmas, making it seem as if he were still overseas.

But the video took a quick turn when Bo said: “For us, home is wherever we’re together, and I look forward to being home with you soon … really, really soon.”

As the camera panned back, it was clear Bo was in the arena ready to see his brother for the first time in months. Watch the reaction in the video above.
