Handgun? Check. Holster? Check. Permit? Check. Alright, you’re ready to step outside into the great big world with your concealed carry handgun legally attached to you. There’s just one problem: you’re setting yourself up for failure.

That’s right. Even though you are doing everything right — using a high retention holster, carrying a handgun, and making sure your permit is on you at all times — you could still be woefully unprepared to deal with an actual defensive gun use situation.

It takes more than just a handgun and a permit to stop a bad guy. There’s a lot of things that need to take place before, during, and after to ensure you stand the best chance of remaining unharmed if you have to defend your life.

Start with training.

There was a process that you envisioned when you picked up a handgun and a permit in order to carry a concealed handgun everyday. You may not have thought it out that far but it certainly exists.

The process goes like this:

  • You get a permit
  • You get a handgun
  • You go out into the world
  • Should the worst happen, you will use that gun to defend your life
