An Illinois mother is working to raise funds to increase security at Mattoon High School after a shooting at the school last week that left two students injured.
“The night of the shooting I just couldn’t sleep,” said Sara Wilson. “Obviously everyone in the community was really anxious, and as was I.”
That night, Wilson decided to take action by starting a GoFundMe account to raise money for the security needs of the school.
“Whether that be the active shooter door jams, the metal detection systems or additional training,” Wilson said, noting the idea was well-received by school officials.
Wilson’s goal is to raise $1,000, every bit of which will go directly to the school district. So far, donations total $260.
