Minnesota Results of First Camp Ripley Archery Hunt Announced

Minnesota -(Ammoland.com)- Archers took a two-day total of 89 deer, up 19 percent from last year, during the first two-day bow hunt at Camp Ripley Military Reservation near Little Falls on Oct. 15-16, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

There were 1,579 permits issued for the first hunt, with 1,216 hunters participating. Hunter success was 7 percent.

The hunt is one of two archery hunts this year at Camp Ripley, and hunters apply in advance for the hunts.

Benjamin Fern of Savage took the largest buck tipping the scales at 203 pounds. Brent Hedberg of Elk River took a buck nearly as large, weighing 200 pounds. Of adult does registered, the largest weighed in at 126 pounds, taken by Matt Hegge of Moose Lake.

The second two-day hunt is scheduled for Oct. 31 to Nov. 1. The DNR coordinates the hunts with the Department of Military Affairs, which manages the 53,000-acre military reservation.
