Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke painted a sobering picture of the police force yesterday as he explained budget cuts amid a spike in homicides in a interview with Fox News.

“Budgets have been cut, I’m about 150 deputies down,” he said. “The Milwaukee Police Department is about 300 officers down.”

“Plus, they’ve furloughed every Milwaukee police officer for three days each, which accounts for fewer man-hours if you will on routine patrol in these high crime areas providing services for the people that need it the most,” Clarke said.

He called this a “social engineering experiment” that is being done on America’s justice system.

“It’s been masqueraded as sentencing reform, prison reform, criminal justice reform, it has tried to eliminate the use of jail and prison as a crime control tool.”

According to Clarke, he explained that criminals are released much to quickly and that they then commit more crimes. What toll does that have on the police force?

More criminals on the streets + Less police involvement + Less response time = the responsibility for gun owners to defend themselves.

Clarke was right when he said “it’s a very difficult time for the American police officer.”
