Michigan man gets 8 years for trafficking guns stolen from gun shop

A man from Kalamazoo, Michigan, was sentenced to eight years in prison Tuesday for his role in transporting and trafficking firearms stolen from a Michigan gun shop.
According to a Justice Department news release, 27-year-old Keondre McNeely received the 96-month sentence for possessing a stolen firearm.
McNeely reportedly played a key role in transporting 21 guns that were stolen in Nov. 2015 from Outpost Guns in Sturgis, MI. Thirteen of the 21 stolen guns were assault rifles.
Judge Robert J. Jonker called McNeely a “key conduit” in the stolen firearms operation and noted he had put a lot of people “in harm’s way.”
“Keondre McNeely and his codefendants put 21 stolen guns on the street and there is no telling when one or more of those firearms might be used in a violent way,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Andrew Birge. “If you steal guns from an FFL, if you sell stolen guns, or if you buy or possess a stolen gun, this Office is going to do what it can to ensure a lengthy prison term that reflects the seriousness and dangerousness of these crimes.”
Five other people have been sentenced for their roles in possessing or trafficking the stolen guns.
