“I just knew it was me or him.”

Those are the words from James Shaw Jr., who was inside a Waffle House early this morning just minutes before a gunman came in and started shooting. That gunman, still being sought by police, killed 4 people and injured at least 7 others.

It could have been much worse, however, because the gunman wasn’t seemingly finished with his rampage.

That rampage came to an end at the hands of Shaw, who took the first opportunity to tackle the gunman and get the rifle away from him.

“I’m not a hero,” Shaw said. “I’m just a regular person. I think anybody could have did what I did if they’re pushed. You have to either react or fall. I chose to react because I didn’t see any other way to live. I just wanted to live.”

He says that he’s no hero, but we disagree. He stated during an interview (seen above) that everyone is calling himself a hero but he does not feel that way.
