A man in England miraculously survived a gunshot wound to the chest, thanks to his iPhone.

Ryan Duggan, 19, was found guilty of attempted murder last week in an October 2014 shooting. Authorities say Duggan shot victim Daniel Kennedy when Kennedy confronted a group of people for turning off the water supply to his home.

Police say Duggan fired a sawed-off shotgun at Kennedy’s chest, but an iPhone in the victim’s jacket pocket took the brunt of the blast as reported by Fox News.

“This is remarkable – had that phone not been in his pocket at that time he would undoubtedly have died,” Detective Inspector Gary McIntyre said.

McIntyre said in a statement:

Despite making good progress [the victim] still requires treatment for his injuries – including further operations and rehabilitation. The nightmare is far from over.

Duggan clearly believed that he was above the law – there was no doubt that his actions that night were to kill the victim – and the jury has agreed with this.
