Man on the Street: Do You Hunt with Suppressors?

Within the past few years the number of states allowing for civilian ownership of suppressors has continued to grow. In most of these states, and in other states where suppressors are legal, hunting with suppressors is also permitted.

This allows hunters who own suppressors to leave the ear protection at home when venturing afield, giving them greater situational awareness without risking potential hearing loss. It also offers hunters the ability to shoot without disrupting neighbors or frightening game for other hunters in the area.

While there are some clear advantages to using suppressors, and many hunters utilize them for these benefits, not all hunters use suppressors where permitted for a variety of reasons.

To get a sense of where gun owners stand on the use of suppressors for hunting, we hit the floor of the 2015 NRA Annual Meeting & Exhibits to ask NRA members: “Do you hunt with suppressors? Why, or why not?”
