PORT ST. JOE, FLORIDA — A 33-year-old man is in hot water after he drew some images on a child’s homework, which that child brought to school.

Administrators at the school were concerned with the images, and Robert Paul Alexander Edwards, of Mexico Beach, is facing multiple charges because of it.

From local media;

“Our country has been affected one too many times with horrific school tragedies. We take matters like this very seriously,” Sheriff Mike Harrison said. Harrison and officials with Gulf District Schools have worked together on this matter.

Edwards was interviewed by investigators, the sheriff’s office said. Although the actions in the drawing were taken seriously, there’s no reason to believe that Edwards was actually going to carry out the threat.

It was a poor choice, indeed, and the response warrants a little dissection.

In the world that we live today, is it overkill or not to go after someone who draws something of this nature? I believe that everything that seems concerning should be investigated, because you just never know. We have seen many mass shooters in the past who threw out warning flags left and right that went unnoticed.
