The lawyer for a Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver facing charges for driving with an unlicensed gun in New Jersey said he’s licensed to carry in Texas.

Fortunato Perri Jr. said Josh Huff is licensed in his home state and that the gun was not loaded when he was stopped around 11 a.m. Tuesday on the Walt Whitman Bridge, which connects New Jersey with Philadelphia.

Huff faces charges for possessing the 9 mm handgun without a permit in New Jersey and for the magazine found with six hollow-point bullets. Police said he also faces a disorderly persons offense for having less than 50 grams of marijuana.

While Huff’s gun license is recognized in Pennsylvania, WPVI-TV reported, New Jersey has strict gun laws and does not recognize permits issued in other states.

A court complaint said Huff was stopped for speeding, the station reported. When the Delaware River Port Authority officer inquired about a marijuana smell in the car, Huff handed over a container with suspected pot and told the officer his gun was in the driver-side door pocket, the complaint noted.
