MGM Resorts International confirmed in a statement Thursday the Mandalay Bay’s 32nd-floor suite that was occupied by a gunman during a mass shooting earlier this month will not be available for future rentals.
Other than the lack of potential rental, officials with the company, who called the Oct. 1 shooting “a terrible tragedy perpetrated by an evil man,” did not indicate any possible plans for the suite, which at this time remains a crime scene.
The 64-year-old gunman opened fire from two windows of the suite into a crowd of some 22,000 unsuspecting attendees at the Route 91 Harvest music festival. The gunman killed 58 and injured more than 500 before he took his own life in the hotel room. The investigation is ongoing, but thus far, authorities have struggled to pinpoint a motive for the massacre.
