portland woman pulls gun on knife-carrying robber

This story is more proof that guns serve as self-protection even when they are not fired. Most of the time these stories go completely unnoticed since no one was shot or killed, but I’m willing to bet this woman isn’t regretting her decision to own a handgun.

We don’t know all the details in this case, but according to the pressherald.com,

A 35-year-old Cumberland woman said she was walking to her car in the parking lot at 106 Gilman St., near Maine Medical Center, at 2:45 p.m. Friday when the robber approached her. He asked for money and threatened her with a knife after she said she had nothing to give him. The woman again told the man she didn’t have any money and then got in her car, where she had a handgun. She pointed the gun at the man and told him to leave her alone. The man left in an unknown direction. The victim drove away and later reported the incident to police.

This could have been a case of a pan-handler looking for a handout but getting too aggressive in his tactics. Introduce a knife onto the scene and the situation could have gotten ugly fast. …read more
