The Senate Judiciary Committee voted last week to approve Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination as gun rights groups continue to back President Trump’s nominee.
At the conclusion of a sensational nomination hearing replete with nationally televised and debated accusations of sexual assault by Kavanaugh, who currently sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, the Committee on Friday advanced the nominee in an 11-10 party-line vote.
Committee chair, U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, on Friday requested that the FBI conduct a supplemental background investigation “limited to current credible allegations against the nominee and must be completed no later than one week from today.”
With that, Senate Majority Leader, U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R- Ky., said, “we will shortly move to proceed to the Kavanaugh nomination,” saying that he currently had all 51 Republican senators in the chamber on board with proceeding, the magic number needed to confirm him to the Supreme Court without defections from across the aisle.
