Illinois State Rifle AssociationUSA -(Ammoland.com)- The NRA rifle matches are over for the year, but before they ended, ISRA juniors Liam McKenna and Alex Vitous picked up two more junior championships.

Liam McKenna won High Junior in the 1000-yard match and Alex Vitous won High Junior in the Palma Match. The Palma Match is shot at 800, 900, and 1000 yards.

The 2017 shooting season is starting to wind down and it is time to consider the 2018 shooting season. The ISRA is always interested in building junior shooters. Some colleges and universities offer scholarships to junior shooters who qualify with high enough scores. Athletic events require commitment, not only from the junior, but from their parents, grandparents and others who support them.

Even if the junior shooter does not achieve those high levels, they will be introduced to a sport they can enjoy for the rest of their lives. The great news is you don’t have to be seven feet tall and weigh 300 pounds to be successful at it. Boys and girls can compete equally.
