New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel has a long and storied past, playing host to the world’s political leadership and wealthy for over 100 years. Saturday night, however, was a little different, reports the UK’s Independent, when a wedding was interrupted by a gunshot . . .

triggered by Vladimir Gotlibovsky, who negligently fired a pistol he had in his pocket “when reaching for his seating card, according to New York police.”

The discharged round ricocheted against the marble floor, grazing the head of Maya Rafailovich, another wedding guest. Fragments of marble, glass, and tile impacted by the errant round caused minor injuries to four other guests.

Gotlibovsky reacted to his own negligence with something less than a stiff upper lip:

Police believe that he may have panicked after the incident and tried to hide it. According to the Daily News, detectives were seen searching rubbish bins around the hotel.

NYPD’s finest probably had no trouble ID’ing the responsible party, though as photographs taken show Gotlibovsky being frogmarched out of the hotel in police custody with a gaping, softball-sized hole in his pantaloons. A dead give-away.
