President Obama’s 2017 budget proposal includes a wallet-busting request for a gun control initiative, The Hill reported.
Filed Tuesday, the request includes funding increases for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the FBI to reduce gun violence.

The $1.3 billion dollar program unsurprisingly faced overwhelming criticism from Republican members of Congress.
In the $4.1 trillion budget proposal, which calls for a $2.6 trillion tax hike, the president also requested more funding to combat climate change and terrorism.
More than $35 million of the $1.3 billion gun control portion of the budget would be spent hiring 200 additional agents to reduce gun violence. The FBI has also requested more money to hire an additional 230 employees in order to speed up the process of background checks on gun sales.
Obama’s request also includes increased funding for mental healthcare and gun safety technology, among other things.
