Monday evening, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department say an employee of the Phillips 66 gas station in the 3200 block of S. Keystone Avenue shot and killed an armed robber just before midnight.

The clerk told police that the suspect had demanded money from him. Police have not released the details about what exactly happened next, but at some point, the clerk pulled out a gun and shot at the suspect.

The suspect made it outside after being shot, but collapsed and died shortly after.

Levi Walker, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene from two gunshot wounds to the torso. His death has been ruled a homicide by the Marion County Coroner.

The clerk was not injured in the shooting. He told police that he shot the man in self-defense.

Customers at the Phillips 66 station say they are glad that the clerk fought back.

“This isn’t the first time they’ve tried to rob him and to be honest with you, I believe he done what he should have done,” said Brian Nordby. “The guy comes in with the intention to hurt him and rob him, that’s self-defense all the way through from what I could tell.”
