As someone who follows gun stories and gun laws closely, I hear a lot of rhetoric and blame shifting after every shooting, and none of it actually addresses the heart of the issue.

We are now hearing from the father and boyfriend of slain WDBJ reporter, Alison Parker, as they went on Fox News and vowed to shame politicians into preventing crazy people from getting guns.

“I’m not going to let this issue drop; we’ve got to do something about crazy people getting guns,” Andy Parker told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly.

“Next week, it isn’t going to be a story anymore and everybody is going to forget it,” he continued, saying his mission in life was now to “shame” politicians into taking action on gun control.

While we can appreciate the appeal of a mourning father we have to evaluate if his call for more gun laws would have stopped the killer from wanting to end someone’s life. After all, it’s the low regard for human life that ultimately led to this horrific event.
