Cabot Guns, makers of some of the world’s most captivating M1911s, recently showed off a few of their custom engraved guns and it looks like they may have reached a new level.
In the above video is the Cabot Guns Dante’s Inferno. Voted Best Engraved Gun of 2018 by the Firearms Engravers Guild of America, the one-of-a-kind piece of functional art was inspired by Italian writer Dante Alighieri’s 14th-century famous poem as depicted by 19th-century French illustrator Gustav Dore. Crafted by Master Engraver Lee Griffiths, the gun is poetry in steel.
Below, Cabot shows off FEGA Master Engraver Otto Carter’s masterpiece, the Art Nouveau-inspired Le Nouveau. As noted by the company, “Unique scroll work is a foundational part of Otto’s work, and this piece is no exception. While traditional scrollwork keeps to a very tight, patterned repetition the Art Nouveau scrollwork on the Cabot Le Nouveau pistol relies more on nature for inspiration. Its meandering scrollwork establishes an idea, and then immediately rolls back on itself like a snake, then stretches out again like an untrimmed grapevine.”
Either way, you can bet that John Browning would be proud.
