Two people believed to be responsible for a drive-by shooting in North Houston early Saturday morning are dead, and a third suspect was injured after the homeowner fired back at his assailants.
Over 40 shots were exchanged, according to authorities, who also say the preliminary investigation indicates the homeowner acted in self-defense.
The homeowner, whose name was not released, was outside when the trio drove by and opened fire. The homeowner took cover behind a bush and returned fire, striking all three suspects.
Soon thereafter, the driver of the car crashed into another vehicle before his car came to a stop in a nearby yard. One suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, while a second briefly fled on foot but was soon thereafter apprehended. The fleeing suspect was transported to the hospital where he later died. The third suspect was also transported to the hospital and underwent surgery. His current condition is unknown.
There were no reported injuries to the homeowner or any bystanders.
Authorities also said the day before the drive-by investigators were called to the same house after someone attempted to set it on fire. Police say they believe the home was specifically targeted in both incidents but did not provide further
