Yet another machinist has thrown his hat in the ring and sent us some diabolo-shaped pellets made out of aluminum. These were made on a HAAS ST-10 CNC lathe. The machinist is a college student named Daniel who is in a college manufacturing program.
We loaded these into “stock” Federal target shells. We like using these shells because they can give us comparative results with other slugs loaded in the same shells. Also, these shells do not produce very much smoke which important when trying to see their flight in high speed. Hi-brass will often make huge clouds of smoke and really do not propel the slugs ANY faster. Finally, because Federal uses a 2-piece wadding, we have had better load-separation using this brand.
