The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced it is awarding Winchester a contract—for an undisclosed amount—to be its primary source for 40 S&W ammunition. The agreement calls for a bonded jacketed hollow point (JHP) service round in addition to full metal jacket (FMJ) and frangible training loads.

According to the press release, which was issued by Winchester, the 180 gr. bonded jacketed hollow point (JHP) cartridge picked by the FBI after extensive testing boasts patented tech that uses a reverse-jacketed, bonded bullet capable of penetrating a number of intermediate barriers while retaining consistent penetration and expansion.

The nickel-plated cartridge stops corrosion and guarantees smooth feeding and extraction, the company says. The cartridge uses flash suppressed powder to preserve an agent’s night vision and meet the agency’s tough “darkened range evaluation.”

For years now, Winchester has been supplying the FBI with its service and training ammunition. This contract looks to be the latest extension of that fruitful relationship.
