A Clark County, Nevada, jury found former MMA fighter Jonathan “War Machine” Koppenhaver guilty on 29 of the 34 counts that stemmed from an August 2014 assault involving his ex-girlfriend, Christine “Christy Mack” Mackinday and a male friend, Corey Thomas.
Koppenhaver broke into Mackinday’s Las Vegas home and left Mackinday with severe injuries that included nearly a dozen broken bones, a broken nose and broken teeth, a punctured lung, fractured rib, and a ruptured liver. Additionally, Thomas suffered from contusions and a bone fracture.
After the assault, Koppenhaver eluded authorities by fleeing to California but was apprehended a few days later.
Some of Koppenhaver’s charges include burglary, battery, coercion, kidnapping, sexual assault and attempted murder, although due to a hung jury, the attempted murder charges ended in a mistrial.
Koppenhaver’s sentencing is set for June 5. He faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
