N. Houston gun store owner shoots alleged burglar in head

HOUSTON – A gun store owner shot an alleged burglar at his northside business early Tuesday, Houston police said.

The break-in was reported around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday at Class 3 Weapons in the 6200 block of N. Shepherd.

The store owner, 52-year-old John Kleiber, told police that he fired at suspects who were breaking into the business. Officers arrived and found a 23-year-old suspect with a gunshot wound to the head.

It’s believed two other suspects fled the scene.

The wounded suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but police at the scene indicated the young man had died. His condition as of noon Tuesday as not known.

Police said a detailed description of the burglars who got away was not available.
