A home invasion suspect that led law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase into on-coming traffic on a California freeway ended when a sheriff’s department sharpshooter sniped the suspect with a rifle from a helicopter after the suspect bailed out of his vehicle, which crashed into on-coming traffic:
A sheriff’s deputy sharp shooter in a helicopter shot and killed a suspect on the 215 Freeway in Devore, in San Bernardino County. The suspect was wanted in connection with a home invasion in Fontana, then led police on a high-speed pursuit and ended up on the freeway going the wrong way.
The suspect bailed out of his car while it was still moving, and that’s when the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy in the helicopter shot and killed him. The suspect’s car crashed into another car.
Three people were transported to the hospital.
From this description of events it sounds like the deputy was clearly authorized to use deadly force to bring this one-man crime spree to an end before the suspect could endanger any more lives, under the fleeing felon rule.
We hope that the three people injured in the collision with the criminal’s car fully recover.
