Hornady 300 PRC, Department of Defense

The U.S. Department of Defense has chosen Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor ammunition for a long-range sniper platform. An unnamed, specialized group will run the ammo in a 20-inch, semiautomatic AR-10, Hornady announced today.

The purchase comes as the Defense Department looks to replace the MK13 bolt-action in .300 Win. Mag. The Hornady 6.5 round underwent testing and selected engagements from 0 to 1,200 yards.

The 6.5 Creedmoor continues its incredible ascent through the shooting world. It delivers less recoil, while providing enhanced accuracy and performance. For this particular military application, the 6.5 Creedmoor also saves on rifle and ammo weight, compared to the MK13 in .300 Win. Mag.

Hornady will load the 6.5 Creedmoor in its factory. The 6.5 Creedmoor also features proven Hornady bullets, specially selected cases, carefully matched powder and stringent quality control, according to Hornady.
