A lieutenant with the Bradenton Police Department in Florida engaged in a violent struggle with a suspect while responding to a burglar alarm over the weekend.
Just before 4 a.m. Sunday, the officer received a call about an alarm sounding at a local jewelry store and when the officer arrived, he immediately discovered damage to the front door and signs of forced entry.
Upon entering the business, the officer found 23-year-old Isaac Hernandez Dubon inside. With his service weapon drawn, the officer gave Dubon numerous verbal commands, which he ignored.
The officer then holstered his weapon and attempted to subdue Dubon. At that point, the two became involved in a violent tussle. For more than two minutes, the officer struggled with the suspect, who reportedly gouged the officer’s eyes during the struggle.
Eventually, the officer was able to break away from Dubon long enough to again draw his service pistol. However, instead of firing at Dubon, the officer opted to cold-cock him with his weapon. Dubon immediately dropped to the ground and soon thereafter a second officer arrived on the scene and handcuffed Dubon as the lieutenant hunched over in pain.
