CT governor to ban gun sales to those on watch lists

Governor Dannel Malloy is seizing the opportunity of a terrorist attack to ban sales of firearms to any individual who is on a government watch list.

The announcement came Thursday afternoon at a press conference in which Gov. Malloy stated that he intends to sign an executive order that would be a first in the nation.

According to wfsb.com, the Governor stated:

“Congress has failed to act, so in Connecticut we shall act,” Malloy said. “If you can not fly due to being on a government watch list, you should not be able to buy a weapon.”

Malloy said the executive order would focus on those listed on various watch lists. It would add an additional layer of protection to what’s done now in terms of background checks.

“We are working with federal authorities to gain access to these lists,” Malloy said. “Whether it be a no-fly list or some combination of people who should not have weapons.”

“I’m here to say we are seizing this moment,” Malloy said. “It is incumbent of government to protect its citizens.”

The news conference happened outside of the governor’s office at the state capitol on Capitol Avenue in Hartford.
