An Ohio man will spend up to 30 months in federal prison for trafficking two dozen handguns bought at a gun show last year.
Federal authorities said 36-year-old Carlton H. Nunn pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of making false and fictitious statements regarding the sale of firearms after he purchased 24 9mm pistols from four different dealers at a September 2016 gun show in Medina County.
Nunn told one of the dealers he needed the guns for his job teaching a concealed carry class, according to the Department of Justice. Instead, Nunn left the handguns in the trunk of a longtime friend and convicted felon, identified only as “J.B.” in court documents. J.B. and a third accomplice, S.B., provided the cash for the firearms and directed Nunn on which guns to buy.
The department said authorities tied one of the guns Nunn bought to a crime scene in Canada.
“This defendant put two dozen firearms out into our streets, and at least one has already been used in a crime,” Acting U.S. Attorney David A. Sierleja said in a press release Tuesday. “People must obey the law or suffer the consequences.”
