USA – -(Ammoland.com)-In an Alert issued on August 8, 2016, F.A.I.R. Trade Group notified members of an apparent change in ATF policy on the term of validity of the law enforcement demonstration letters required to be submitted with Form 6 import applications and National Firearms Act (NFA) transfer applications.

The Alert advised that at the recent Import/Export conference held in Washington, DC, ATF officials advised industry members that the law letter required to import and transfer machineguns as dealer sales samples is valid only for a period of six months. The Alert stated that ATF will not approve a Form 6 import application or a NFA transfer application if the law letter is more than six months old.

On August 11, 2016, ATF officials advised F.A.I.R. that the 6-month period of validity is limited to law letters submitted with Form 6 import applications. ATF officials advise that the 6-month term of validity is a long-standing policy and was consistent with the term of validity for the International Import Certificate (IIC).
