A Pennsylvania gun owner was at the right place at the right time this morning, and helped put a bad guy in jail.

A suspect in a Hatboro bank robbery was chased down and shot by a witness before being taken into custody Wednesday morning, police said.

The robbery happened about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the TD Bank in the 200 block of South York Road, at Lehman Avenue, in the borough.

A suspect, described by authorities as a black male wearing a black hat and black clothing, entered the bank and left with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect ran from the bank, during which time a dye pack exploded. A witness to the robbery chased the suspect and shot him in the parking lot of the Station Park Business Center, an industrial park off Warminster Road and near a SEPTA railroad crossing.

I can only imagine the surprise on the bank robber’s face when the dye pack exploded, which had to turn to horror when he saw the witness draw a weapon and give chase.

The citizen who gave chase shot the suspect in the arm without injuring anyone else, but we would strong suggest not chasing or firing a weapon …read more
