Chicago: Nearly 50 charged, 118 firearms seized in anti-gang operation

Nearly 50 people tied to the Chicago Gangster Two-Six Nation street gang have been charged with dealing guns and drugs, with some 118 firearms seized as the result of a federal investigation.
According to a Justice Department news release, the investigation, called “Operation Bunny Trap,” spanned over two years and uncovered numerous illegal gun and drug transactions.
Of the firearms seized during the investigation, several were assault rifles and shotguns. Officials also seized 25 rounds of ammunition, two ballistic vests, more than 800 grams of cocaine, more than 250 grams of fentanyl, and more than 280 grams of crystal meth.
While the street gang is national in scope, the criminal organization is known for its factions on the South Side of Chicago, as well as surrounding suburbs and areas in Indiana, Wisconsin, Texas, Georgia and Kansas.
Twenty-one defendants were charged in federal court, and 27 are facing state charges.
Among those charged was 30-year-old Eduardo Castro, who sold three handguns to a confidential source in a grocery store parking lot in the South Loop neighborhood. Castro has been charged with possessing a firearm while being a felon and with illegally dealing firearms.
