December 2, 2016 (Rochester, New York)-My dad and I once killed two deer during a blizzard. The snow was up to our hips and in dragging those two deer out of the woods, I am surprised he didn’t have a heart attack then. It was in this trek against the compacted white material (which some kid probably prayed for in order to cancel school) I was reminded of the painful reality of using a dull knife.
It was terrible.
With two winter fattened doe before us, we had to dress both with a dull blade. Instead of nice clean cuts I felt like a clumsy chef with bad motor skills. From that day forward I have been a stickler for having a sharp edge in the woods. While there are great knives on the market, this past season I chose to use blades from a company near my home.
