The San Carlos City Council last week passed a 45-day ban on any new gun stores setting up shop in the city limits just as a Turner’s Outdoorsman was scheduled to open.
Passed 4-1 after an emotion public hearing which local media reported that hundreds attended, the move will keep the vendor’s doors at their newest location closed for now.
“This is an issue to me of community standards,” said Mayor Bob Grassilli, who supports the moratorium. “That’s just what it boils down to and what kind of standards does the community want. And it’s pretty evident to me what kind of standards at this point the community wants. I think we need to take a breath … and put this moratorium into effect and see what can come out of it.”
