West Virginia -(Ammoland.com)- The Nature Center at Cacapon Resort State Park has been renamed the Thomas D. Ambrose Nature Center, honoring retired Cacapon Supt. Tom Ambrose.

“Tom’s nearly 36-year career with state parks was recognized with this well-deserved honor,” said West Virginia State Parks Chief Sam England. Ambrose retired Oct. 30, 2015.

Ambrose’s career path at Cacapon actually spans more than 50 years. His father, James Ambrose, was a park ranger at Cacapon in 1944, seven years after Cacapon opened to the public.

Tom’s childhood memories include meeting many of the Civilian Conservation Corps workers and leaders who helped develop Cacapon and other West Virginia State Parks. He worked at Cacapon as a summer employee, serving as a stable boy, trail guide, lodge bellhop and summer lifeguard while attending the University of Akron and West Virginia University. During summer breaks from his teaching position in Northern Virginia following graduation, he served as naturalist and interpreter at Cacapon.
