Michigan State Police have confirmed a shooting took place at the Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph, Michigan around 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.

An employee at the prosecutor’s office told local reporters three people are dead and one person is injured following a shooting in the building. The employee, who asked to remain anonymous, said two of the people killed were court bailiffs and the other person is the shooter.

The prosecutor’s office employee also said employees were being kept in their offices while the courthouse was on lockdown.

A county commissioner told a reporter from South Bend, IN the suspect had ‘grabbed the gun of one of the deputy and killed him’.

Jeanette Leahey, Berrien County Commissioner, is awaiting more information before commenting on the incident but was aware of the situation.

“We’re in a difficult time in the world. We all know that. It’s unfortunate that it’s coming close to home. … I’m discouraged and disgusted.”
