An officer in west St. Louis County, MO was shot shortly before 11 a.m. this morning near the 300 block of New Ballwin Road in Ballwin, MO.

Authorities say the Ballwin Police Department Officer was conducting a routine traffic stop on a blue Ford Taurus with Illinois temporary tags when he was shot in the neck. The officer has been transported to Mercy Hospital where a strong police presence continues to grow.

Police have confirmed the suspect, described as a tall, thin African-American male wearing a gray tee-shirt and blue jeans, was apprehended after giving officers a short foot chase. Officers did find and recover a weapon from the suspect.

The police officer’s condition is unknown at this time and we will continue to bring you more information on this story as it becomes available.
