I used to love the fact that fellow midwesterner Brad Pitt, who was born in Oklahoma and raised in Missouri, has often said he’s a defender of the Second Amendment and a responsible gun-owning parent.

“There’s a rite of passage where I grew up of inheriting your ancestors’ weapons,” said Pitt. “My brother got my dad’s. I got my grandfather’s.

Pitt also pointed out that children can be raised with guns and still turn out to be responsible adults, citing himself as an example. “I got my first BB gun when I was in nursery school,” Pitt explained. “I got my first shotgun by first grade, I had shot a handgun by third grade and I grew up in a pretty sane environment.”

The most awesome statement he made came after he admitted he has guns around his own home and stated he doesn’t feel safe without them. “America is a country founded on guns. It’s in our DNA. It’s very strange but I feel better having a gun. I really do. I don’t feel safe, I don’t feel the house is completely safe, if I don’t have one hidden somewhere,” Pitt said in an interview.
