Ruger 10/22

Before we dive into looking at which scope is the best scope for ruger 10 22 rifles, let’s first figure out what exactly we are working with.

The name of the rifle basically describes the rifle, as the 22/10 refers to the caliber and round capacity of the rifle. The Ruger 10/22 is a .22LR semi-automatic rimfire rifle and has a removable 10 round rotary magazine which allows the magazine to fit flush with the bottom of the stock (higher capacity magazines are also available). There are a couple of variations of the rifle, which include:

  • 10/22 Carbine
  • 10/22 Takedown
  • 10/22 Target
  • 10/22 Compact
  • 10/22 Sporter
  • 10/22 Tactical
  • SR-22 Rifle
  • 22 Charger Pistol
  • 50th Anniversary Rifle
  • Collector’s Series
  • VLEH Target Tactical Rifle
  • AWC Ultra II
  • AT 10/22 QD

The 10/22 was immediately popular upon its release, being one of the first modern rifles chambered in .22 Long Rifle which was designed as a quality adult gun and not a cheap rifle for kids to play with. Its easy handling characteristics, negligible recoil and inexpensive ammunition make it ideal for young or inexperienced shooters. It is very popular for small-game hunters and those who want an inexpensive rifle firing inexpensive ammunition for target and plinking use.

What We Look For In The Best Scope For Ruger 10/22 Rifles

Taking into consideration what kind of rifle the Ruger 10/22 rifle is, it is clear that buying a super expensive long range sniper scope for it will be absurd! The best scope for ruger 10/22 rifles should be:

Affordable – Looking at the MSRP for Ruger 10/22 rifles on Ruger’s site, it is a rifle that retails for between $250 and $599 (prices at the time of writing. For up to date prices, check Ruger’s product page for the rifle here). Buying a scope that is more expensive than the rifle itself just won’t make sense for the regular users.

Light-weight – The Ruger 10/22 is made for target shooting, plinking and small game-hunting. With those uses in mind, it makes sense that a light-weight scope will be the most practical.

Easy to use – If inexperienced shooters are going to be using the rifle to learn and practise with, the scope on the rifle needs to be easy to use with not too many overly complicated features.

Overall, the best scope for Ruger 10 22 rifles is a scope that is not going to cost a fortune, is easy to use for inexperienced shooters and is suited for informal target shooting and small game-hunting.
