For more than four days, authorities in California have been searching for a suspected gang member who shot and injured a police officer following a traffic stop Thursday night.
The suspect was identified as Gildardo Davila, 27, of Coachella. He is wanted for attempted murder on a peace officer and authorities say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, an officer with the Coachella Police Department initiated a traffic stop around 7:45 p.m. Davila failed to stop and the officer observed Davila toss a handgun out of the car window before fleeing in his vehicle.
About two miles from where the handgun was tossed, the officer located Davila once again. At the sight of the officer, Davila bailed out of his car and fled on foot. During the chase, Davila opened fire on the officer.
The officer was shot multiple times, and Davila fled on foot.
